The Role of an Enterprise Adviser

You don’t have to be an expert in Careers Advice and Guidance to be an Enterprise Adviser (EA). You’ll be bringing something different to modern careers programmes in schools and colleges. Enterprise Advisers use their business or sector knowledge and experience to inspire and inform.

Some EAs work directly with one school or college and enjoy building a strong relationship with that institution helping to shape high quality careers provision with strategic advice and new ideas.

Some EAs prefer to work more flexibly. We call this ‘agile support’. As an ‘agile volunteer’ you might have a strong area of expertise or interest that you can bring to different schools. e.g. developing awareness of modern recruitment practices/raising the profile of your sector/showcasing how you use Maths at work in your industry.

Whichever style of volunteer you would like to be – a member of our team will provide tailored support and you will have access to regular meetings, a thriving community and a range of practical resources.

Why should I become an EA?

  • To inspire young people and connect with the future pipeline of employees.
  • To challenge yourself and learn something new
  • To develop your networking abilities as an early career professional
  • To make connections within your community, and give something back
  • To build your organisation’s reputation and showcase your sector

What will I do?

  • Share your knowledge and experience about job opportunities, key skills needed to succeed, recruitment practices, and the developing world of work.
  • Support the school or college’s Careers Leader to develop a strategic careers plan to ensure every student receives meaningful employer encounters and workplace experiences
  • Help the school or college to engage with local businesses and employers in your network.
  • Help the school or college to focus efforts on programmes and activities that are most effective in motivating students, supporting independent choice and enabling positive outcomes for students
  • Inspire and engage with young people by supporting careers activity directly.
  • Please read the ‘Becoming an EA’ brochure and contact us if you’d like to join the hub as an EA.
